Sunshine, snowmen, and skill building: A week of active learning at Orion Little Stars Blenheim

What a fantastic and busy week the Orion Little Stars Blenheim have had! Embracing the beautiful start of December, the children balanced their energy between the outdoors and some focused, festive craftwork inside.

Festive Fine Motor Fun

Indoors, the excitement was all about getting ready for Christmas! Our Little Stars dedicated their efforts to creating some wonderful decorations. They created:

  • Christmas Tree Collages: Using generous amounts of glue and brightly coloured tissue paper, the children created their own textured Christmas trees. This activity helped them practise  their pincer grip and develop hand-eye coordination, the essential foundations for writing skills.
  • Snowman Plates and Wheels: The children created fantastic snowmen using paper plates and attaching 'wheels'. The detailed work of cutting and carefully sticking small pieces together helped with their fine motor skills and encouraged concentration.

Learning Through Play

Learning at all our Orion Little Stars Nurseries is woven into every activity. Even while enjoying their free play and crafting, we expose our children to key educational concepts:

  • Numbers and Counting: Activities like sharing the tissue paper for the trees and counting the components needed for the snowman plates helped reinforce early numeracy skills.
  • Alphabet and Language: We incorporated letters into our play zones, encouraging the children to recognise and name letters while engaging in their preferred activities.
