Helping Children Regulate Their Emotions
At Orion Little Stars Scotts Park, we have introduced a regulation station to support children’s emotional wellbeing. This calm and welcoming space gives children the chance to take a break, reflect, and manage their feelings when they feel overwhelmed or need some quiet time.
Using the regulation station helps children develop self-regulation skills, giving them the confidence to recognise and manage their emotions independently. It also supports emotional vocabulary, as staff model words like happy, sad, frustrated, or tired, helping children express their feelings and communicate with others.
We have already seen how this system is making a difference. Children are calmer, more confident, and able to return to activities ready to learn and play. By supporting children to manage their emotions from a young age, the regulation station is helping them build resilience, positive relationships, and a strong foundation for future learning.
